On Mechanical Behavior of Metal Anchors in Historical Brick Masonry: Testing and Analytical Validation

چکیده

The repair and strengthening of historical masonry buildings is a fundamental aspect in the conservation built cultural heritage. Temporary shoring or are often used and, usually, involve introduction new metallic elements. connection between original substrate elements must be analyzed carefully to prevent further damage building. This paper presents study on mechanical behavior metal anchors applied brick walls. An experimental campaign developed, series pull-out tests carried out walls laboratory with natural hydraulic lime mortar low strength bricks. Two groups conducted, namely, actuator direction anchor axis inclined respect fastener axis. Moreover, two types anchoring systems used, adhesive (chemical cementitious grout) anchors. results compared predictive analytical formulas available literature for estimation ultimate load capacity, according type failure. From comparison values, it proven that formulation originally developed concrete substrates cannot directly extrapolated cases, specific should developed. presented research can select most efficient system retrofitting structures.

seismic analysis of persian historical brick masonry minarets

according to high height and weak tensile strength of materials in minarets, it is necessary to study the structural behaviour of minarets under earthquake loading. therefore nine historical brick masonry minarets in isfahan have been modelled and analysed by applying the nonlinear finite element method for two cases: 1) the whole minaret, and 2) only the outer shell. results show that all mina...

Mechanical testing of absorbable suture anchors.

PURPOSE Absorbable suture anchors offer great advantages but are made of mechanically weak material. The weakest link in the fixation of soft tissue to bone may therefore be the anchor itself. In this study, several commercially available anchors were mechanically tested in vitro. TYPE OF STUDY Biomechanical bench study. METHODS Twelve absorbable suture anchor models were implanted into an ...

Effective stiffness of unreinforced brick masonry walls

Code design of Unreinforced Masonry (URM) buildings is based on elastic analysis, which requires as input parameter the effective stiffness of URM walls. Current approaches estimate the effective stiffness as fixed ratio of the gross sectional stiffness but comparisons with experimental results have shown that this does not yield satisfactory predictions. In this paper, a recently developed ana...

Mechanical Properties of Clay Brick Masonry Bound with Hydraulic Limes and Hydrated Calcium Lime

Due to their physical and chemical properties, mortars made with lime are considered to be more compatible with historic fabrics than those made with artificial cements. This paper explores the mechanical properties of clay brick masonry bound with hydraulic limes of different strengths, and hydrated calcium lime (CL90-s) with no hydraulic properties. Masonry wallettes built with a CL90-s morta...

Size Dependence of Strength and Fracture Properties of Brick Masonry

The test data on the size effect in the failure of masonry walls and some parts of the discussion of size effect are valuable. However, the theoretical description of the size effect is in my opinion invalid. The use of the "multifractal scaling law" proposed earlier by the senior author is unjustified, for the same reasons as it is for concrete structures. The reasons are explained in detail i...
